So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 58 - Beetlejuice/Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Wednesday Jun 29, 2011
Wednesday Jun 29, 2011
It's a very special (and may we say bodacious) birthday edition of 'So I Married A Movie Geek' as we go late 80's for an old school double feature: BEETLEJUICE and BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE!!! Both were seminal childhood flicks for Justin and both, of course, were completely bypassed by Krissy for over 20 years. But no more! We discuss our recent trip to the Northwest, Krissy's love of trees, Tim Burton, Saturday morning cartoons, Michael Keaton, Captain Kangaroo: The Ride, time travel, our fave B and T historical characters, the potential awfulness of late-in-the-game sequels & much more! It's all PG-13, y'all and totally EXCELLENT!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 57 - Big/Joe Versus the Volcano
Tuesday Jun 21, 2011
Tuesday Jun 21, 2011
Tom Hanks double feature, y'all. Seriously. TRUTH: We love Tom Hanks. And if you don't love him too, we don't know what to say to you. You might just be a communist. This week, Krissy had full choice and we watched 2 Hanks flicks, BIG (1988) and JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO (1990). One is Justin's all-time favorite Hanks film. The other features Meg Ryan in three roles, Abe Vigoda and a volcano. So there you go. Spoilers and nostalgia-diarrhea filled, like always! This tangent-filled episode is rated PG-13!!!

How super was J.J. Abrams's Super 8 really? And what specific scenes did Krissy have beef with after finally seeing Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the very first time?!? Those questions and more are all answered (more or less) in this super duper alien-tastic double feature episode of SIMAMG! Soooooo MINT, am I right? Feeling the Spielberg love, this week we make nostalgia cotton candy and discuss movie mashups, Abrams's extreme obsession with lens flares, THE MOST SPECTACULAR TRAIN CRASH OF ALL TIME, precocious child actors, Elle Fanning's awesomosity, the fun of playing with your mashed potatoes, Richard Dreyfuss, ditching your family, the NBC jingle & much more! This episode is rated PG-13 in every universe!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 55 - X-Men: First Class/X-Men
Wednesday Jun 08, 2011
Wednesday Jun 08, 2011
ALL X-MEN EPISODE! Is X-Men First Class the best of the bunch? We force Krissy to watch her very first X-Men double feature: X-Men (2000) and the brand new one out in the theaters too! X-cellent, right? Which one did she enjoy more? How much in love are we both now with Michael Fassbender? FASSBENDER!!!! How many degrees are we currently from Kevin Bacon? What would be Krissy's big superpower? It's all in this episode that's rated PG-13!

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade vs. The Fifth Element! Two adventurous flicks personally programmed by Justin's sister Kristin and both previously unseen by Krissy (of course)! Harrison Ford and Sean Connery vs. Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovovovovich!! Which flick kept Krissy awake ---better? As a relative newbie to the series, out of the Indiana Jones trilogy (and not the woeful 4th), which is her official favorite? Up to this point, what did Krissy think the Holy Grail actually was? (Hint: you'll never guess it.) Are the Joneses, um, immortal now? What exactly was Chris Tucker on during TFE? When will Luke Perry get his break? How open to love is Bruce Willis? Bandage outfits? Obvs, the hard journalistic questions that erupt when watching this double feature!! This episode is rated PG-13 for one prominent curse word! Earmuffs, kids!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 53 - Predator/Total Recall
Tuesday May 24, 2011
Tuesday May 24, 2011
An Arnold Schwarzenegger double feature?!? It's naht a tumor! It's a two-fer! No really. Are you ready for the most scatterbrained discussion of Predator and Total Recall...perhaps EVER? Because when you add a visiting family member to the mix, there is absolutely no way that anyone can stay on topic during this week's episode. Maybe we were just happy not to be raptured? The rambling spiel includes many many bad Arnold impressions, plus thoughts about Alien Vs. Predator, Lil Jon and Alex Mack, jackhammering with muscles, mutants with multiple boobs, Titanic (of course) and much more!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 52 - Bridesmaids/Very Bad Things
Monday May 16, 2011
Monday May 16, 2011
It's wedding season! And what better way to celebrate than to watch 2 movies that illustrate the sometimes hilarious (and sometimes much less hilarious) realities of the process of getting hitched: the new-in-theaters Bridesmaids and the 1998 dark comedy Very Bad Things! We discuss the awesomeness of Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, water/laser weddings, Cameron Diaz, the legacy of Jeremy Piven, half-Golden Globe noms, our own wedding party experiences and much more. We even spontaneously break into one of our fave 80's sitcom theme songs right at the beginning! AND all this public embarrassment is TOTALLY FREE. Warning though: this podcast episode is generously sponsored by alcohol (or "ow-ow-ow-cohol") and rated PG-13 due to the fact that we talk a ton about the (very, very, very, very) bad things done in Very Bad Things! Hint: it involves hookers, dismemberment and the fact that Krissy can't trust Justin's movie-choosing skills anymore. Wah waaaaaah... :(

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 51 - Tootsie/The Last of Sheila
Monday May 09, 2011
Monday May 09, 2011
AN ALL-MOM PROGRAMMED EPISODE! Yup. Since Krissy wouldn't agree to seeing either Thor or Fast Five (insert highly disappointed head shake here), this week we celebrated Mother's Day by watching 2 of our moms' favorite movies of all time: Tootsie (1982) and The Last of Sheila (1973)!! One of which Justin had never seen himself. Spoiler warning: at one point we completely lose it and then we lose it several more times. Our minds, what we're supposed to be talking about, etc. A lot of it is due to Krissy's shocking admissions about her "narcolepsy" AND her lack of knowledge about a popular board game. See? There's a clue. Annnnd now you know which one. The discussion also includes the First (And Last) Annual Tootsie-Off. It's all rated PG-13, like usual-ish! Thanks for listening!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 50 - Being John Malkovich/Memento
Tuesday May 03, 2011
Tuesday May 03, 2011
FIFTY EPISODES! Yeeeeaaahhh! We (somehow) made it! We celebrate by watching two fantastic movies that Krissy had managed to avoid for long enough: Being John Malkovich and Memento!! Why did she erroneously think both movies starred Tom Cruise? Whose portal would we each use for 15 minutes and why? Do we hit our one-Titanic-mention-per-episode mark? Does Krissy have short-term memory disorder like Guy Pearce's character? What the hell really happened in Memento? Does anyone really know? This episode is rated PG-13 for several unnecessary references to porpoise sex!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 49 - Requiem For A Dream/The Rules of Attraction
Wednesday Apr 27, 2011
Wednesday Apr 27, 2011
Are you MEGA SUPER DEPRESSED? Do you want to hear Justin get berated for picking one of the most downer movies in the last 20 years to watch this week? OF COURSE YOU DO, right? Well that's what we were working with as we belatedly paired 2000's 'Requiem For A Dream' and 2002's 'The Rules of Attraction' for an honest-to-goodness, slit-your-wrists double feature! (insert heavy sigh here) Like many episodes, this week's left us with more questions than answers! Like...what is Jared Leto's major malfunction? Why wasn't 'Requiem' filmed with more happy colors? Should we visit our mothers more? Electro-shock therapy? Like, for reals? What if Candyman attended the famous double-sided sex toy party? Why is Dawson Leery so angry-face? Is puking during sex grounds for a punch in the jaw? Which 'Rules' character does Krissy hate the least? This episode's language calls for a PG-13 rating but the subject matter throughout makes it highly R-rated! So you've been warned!
