So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 18 - Risky Business/Cocktail

It's an old school Tom Cruise double feature! This week, Kris for the very 1st time finally experiences 'Risky Business' (1983) and 'Cocktail' (1988), two early Cruise films that feature the youthful pursuit of The American Dream through hard work, entrepreneurship, prostitution and bartending with choreography. The meandering discussion includes Risky's important lessons about hookers, Balki and Booger, the hotness of Rebecca De Mornay and her work attire, running a brothel in your house,  Joey Pants!!, Risky's strange sex scenes,Tom Cruise's actual height, ELISABETH SHUE, the Cocktail soundtrack, romantic waterfalls (should they be chased?), standing on top of bars for poetry, the saddest L.A. stripper ever, dancing in underwear and the real Coughlin's Law. "Sometimes you just got to say...what the heck." This episode is rated PG-13, but a hard PG-13 because, again, we talk about hookers and strippers.

This week, we hit shuffle on Netflix Watch Instantly and land on the 1989 super-cheesefest 'Earth Girls Are Easy.' Yes, the extremely odd movie about sex-starved aliens inadvertently crash-landing their Oscar Wienermobile spaceship in an L.A. valley girl's pool. As one of us succinctly describes it, "What the crap is this??" Also...Which of us actually liked this movie (and why)? Are earth girls really that easy? What were Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, Damon Wayans Jim Carrey and their agents thinking? What is the Jeff Goldblum Look that constantly slays the ladies? Julie Brown or Downtown Julie Brown? Why does Krissy keep bringing up 'Schindler's List' every movie we watch? How do birth control pills really work? What should the (never happening) sequel be about and should James Cameron be involved? Tell ya friends! Tell ya wife! This episode is rated PG-13.

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 16 - Ghost/Sleepless in Seattle

So what do the 90s movies 'Ghost' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' have in common...? Dead spouses! Oscar winners! A protagonist named Sam! Krissy's newfound love!! Seriously, how K went so long without ever seeing either of these movies -- but especially SIS, a movie that has 'KRISSY' written all over it -- is beyond us. Join us as we drink wine and Justin accuses Meg Ryan of being a stalker of 'Fatal Attraction' caliber, Krissy inexplicably defends her love for Bill Pullman (while still pursuing Tom hanks on the side), and we both ponder the magic combination of hot people and pottery.  Also discussed with varying degrees of incredulity and jealousy: just HOW it's possible that Demi Moore looks better now than she did in her 20s. I mean really, woman's got a time machine. ...With a resident plastic surgeon inside.  Also, we totally get the director wrong for 'Ghost.' Sorry, Jerry Zucker. This podcast is rated PG-13! Enjoy!

Everyone's seen 'Temple of Doom,' right? Well, Krissy hadn't. So we watched it annnnd talked about it a whole bunch. Discussion includes Justin saying "like" a whole lot (he blames stupidity/cold medicine), what really happened with Krissy & her hatred of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' which 2 characters will forever be known as Blanket Jackson & Tater Tots, what to do (or not do) when served monkey brains for dessert, the dangers of getting a beer with Mola Ram, the stupidity of a bulimic army & much more. Rated PG-13 because we also talk about child slavery & hearts being torn from people's chest cavities. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Discussion includes why Justin has already seen the movie twice, Krissy's bordering on stalker obsession with Leonardo DiCaprio, how 'Inception' ranks as a Leo film, the awesomeness of the zero gravity sequence, what kind of dreams we would build if we were the architects, the movie's almost too-intense score, that controversial last scene and more. So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 13 - The Blue Lagoon

We go tropical for episode 13 by submitting ourselves to 'The Blue Lagoon,' the 1980 coming-of-age shipwreck drama that starred a 14 year-old Brooke Shields, Christopher Atkins & Mr. Feeney from 'Boy Meets World.' Discussion includes what Brooke Shields' mom must have been thinking by putting her daughter in this movie, going through puberty on a deserted island, the suspension of disbelief, attending school dances with your cousin, the dangers of swimming nude near coral, Paddy Button The Soothsayer, the birds and the bees and passion-fruit sex, teaching your baby to swim, Albert Einstein hair and Morgan Freeman's wang. The movie's rated R but our podcast could pass for a hard PG-13. Seriously, kids. What do you expect from a movie in which the two main characters are nude most of the time?

On this edition of SIMAMG, Krissy finally watches The Shawshank Redemption (1994) for the very first time. How she somehow missed it airing 20 times a day for the past 15 years on TNT we don't know. Discussion includes contemplating how we'd personally do if each of us were in prison, the movie's number one ranking on IMDB, the theme of hope in the film, how Morgan Freeman has become the king of narration and mix CD's, going to see The Mist on Easter, false Christian wardens, Prison Break the FOX series, book fairs, crawling through poop pipes and much much more. It's a special spoiler-filled birthday edition of SIMAMG as we watch Teen Wolf, the 1985 coming-of-age, dunking-werewolf...comedy?  Its weirdness left us with more questions than answers. Such as: what's the thematic value of Teen Wolf? Could a teen werewolf feasibly work in a kids gym? Why would anyone name their kid BOOF? How do you surf on a car in L.A. without killing yourself? What does the teen wolf guy have in common with Miley Cyrus AND Kobe Bryant, according to Krissy? What's up with that crazy beer keg party? What if Teen Wolf starred Michael Jackson instead of Michael J. Fox? Why are Twlight's werewolves always so serious? How corny was that Big Bad Wolf dance? Did some guy show his manjunk at the very end of this movie? Why does Justin say "inherently" so much? We cover it all at embarrassing length. This podcast is rated PG-13!

So I Married A Movie Geek - Episode 10 - The Hugga Bunch

In honor of Toy Story 3 blowing our minds over the weekend, we subjected ourselves to one of the CREEPIEST KIDS MOVIES OF ALL TIME, the Kroftian 1985 "kids movie," The Hugga Bunch. Don't believe us? It's on You Tube as evidence. During this PG-13 spoiler-filled episode,  Justin explains his personal connection to the movie, plus J&K discuss putting grandma out to pasture, Southern accents, not-so-cool hugs, homemade McGriddles, Clarissa Explains It All, squishy mirrors, singing midget people, phantom penises, "turd-like testicles," fiery mammoths!!!, young berries,  & dusty attics. It's the longest anyone has ever talked about this horrible, horrible movie, guaranteed.

The podcast is back for season 2 with a SPOILER HEAVY & very PG-13 look at SPLICE! At great length through bouts of laughter (sorry), we do many impressions of DREN & discuss whether the actors were "in on the joke," awkward Elaine dancing, chicken hand legs, the worst mystery-solving threesome of all time, "freaky barn sex" and Disneyworld.
